The relevance of the research topic lies in the further development of the theoretical and methodological foundations of information protection in electronic registers based on a comprehensive study of the development of the register system at the current stage of the development of information systems, a thorough study of foreign experience in this field. The purpose of the work was to investigate the analysis of scientific approaches to the definition of the concept of “information security”, “information protection” in electronic registers, as well as in a comparative analysis of the main methods and mechanisms of information protection in electronic registers in Ukraine and some foreign countries. The authors studied the main directions of the European information security policy, the protection of information in electronic registers, the main mechanisms of information protection in electronic registers based on a conceptual analysis and a comparative analysis of the legislation on information protection and the main methods of its protection in certain leading foreign countries. Special attention was paid in the article to the features of information security, namely information protection in certain foreign countries for the purpose of studying and introducing the best methods of information security into the practice of our state. The authors proved that the new model of information protection should take into account the development of an effective state policy on the protection of information in electronic registers in accordance with EU legal standards; creation of the Institute of the Commissioner for Information Protection; in accordance with the EU norms, the introduction of specialists in matters of personal data protection at enterprises. Since the modern system of information protection in Ukraine does not guarantee the protection of privacy and personal data of a person and a citizen, the co-authors of the article suggested making appropriate changes to the current legislation in order to bring it into line with EU legal standards. The article also proposes a new model of information protection in Ukraine, taking into account the experience of foreign countries
